Lady Dolphins unable to overtake Louisburg

 SUPPLY—The Brunswick Community College women’s basketball team lost 68-58 to Louisburg Community College on Jan. 7 at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center.


For BCC (4-7), Shaquita Jones scored 11 points, Danielle Blunt and Chelsea McGowan 10, Julia Crews 9 and Kiandra Long 8. Tequila Jones scored 5 points, Sheena Suttlemyre 2 and Emily Schweer 1.

Louisburg led 44-35 in the second half but BCC outscored LCC in cutting the lead to 48-47.

A 3-pointer by Long began the run. With the score 46-40, Tequila Jones put back a rebound. LCC scored, but Blunt hit two free throws and Crews hit a 3-pointer, cutting the lead to 48-47 with 6 minutes, 22 seconds left.

The lead was 50-48 with 5:12 left, and then LCC hit a 3-pointer in a 7-0 run that extended its lead to 57-48. The Lady Dolphins never got closer than 5 points the rest of the game.

Louisburg led 27-25 at the half. Two 3-pointers by Crews gave BCC an 8-6 lead. A 3-pointer Kiandra Long, a short jumper by McGowan off a pass from Suttlemyre and a hook shot by McGowan put BCC ahead 20-12 with about 7 minutes left in the half. McGowan picked up her third foul with 4:55 left, and Louisburg scored the final 4 points of the half.
