The North Brunswick softball team opened the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A state playoffs by beating Fairmont 23-1 in five innings Friday.
North (10-11) scored 11 runs in the fourth inning and finished with 24 hits.
Macey Bordeaux was 4-for-5 with two triples and two RBIs. Meghan Barrett was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Preston Ellenberg was 3-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs. Stacy Fodrie was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Kasey Klutz was 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs. Meagan Spivey was 3-for-5. Mackaela Smith was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Barrett was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits. She walked one and struck out seven.
North boys win 12-0

North took advantage of four errors. Jacob Shumate was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Chris Graham was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Steven Linkous was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Matt Lowry had two RBIs. Jared Strange had two hits. David Zacek was 1-for-3 with four RBIs.
Zacek was the winning pitcher. He gave up three hits. He walked one and struck out eight.
