Victor varsity rallies to beat West JV

 The West Brunswick varsity softball team beat East Forsyth 12-2 in six innings April 2 in a second-round game of the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational in Shallotte.


Ariana Thomas was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Hannah Stocks was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Ashley Smith was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Caroline Gore was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. She gave up two hits (one was a home run), one earned run and one unearned run in five innings. She stuck out five and walked four.

West led 3-2 entering the bottom of the third when it scored three runs with two outs. Gore singled to center and Stocks singled off the glove of an infielder. Smith then doubled to center, driving in two runs. An error allowed her to go to third and she scored on a wild pitch.

The Trojans scored three more runs in the fourth after it loaded bases on a hit by Bre Small, an error and single by Abbey Dyson. Gore doubled home two runs and Stocks singled home the run that put West ahead 9-1.

In the fifth, Leilani Emile singled home a run. West won the game in the sixth, scoring two runs on a single by Thomas and an infield error.


West JV loses to Victor

The Victor High School varsity scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the West Brunswick junior varsity 11-10 Aptil 2 in a second-round game of the Touchstone Energy Beach Diamond Invitational.

West trailed 5-3 entering the top of the fifth but scored seven runs in taking a 10-5 lead.

In the inning, Randaisa Daniels reached on a bunt and Abby Fulford singled. Alysha Cortes singled, driving in a run, and a error left runners on third and second. With one out, Courtney Chappell singled home a run to tie the score 5-5.  After Jordan Clemmons walked, loading the bases, Christian Strickland singled through the left side of the infield, driving home a run. Sumner Russ reached when a Victor outfielder dropped a flyball. A run scored on the play, extending the West lead to 7-5.

Ti’Erra Davis was safe on an infield single, and that scored a run and left the bases loaded.

With two outs, Fulford was safe on a fielder’s choice, and a run scored. With the bases loaded, Cortes walked, forcing home the run that put West ahead 10-5.

Victor scored twice in the sixth to cut the lead to 10-7.

In the bottom of the seventh, three straight singles scored a run, and an error on the third single left runners on third and second. Another West error allowed Victor to cut the lead to 10-9. With one out, a walk loaded the bases. Victor tied the score on a wild pitch and won the game on a hit to short right field that dropped between two players.


West JV loses to Winslow Township.

On April 2, the West junior varsity baseball team lost 12-2 to Winslow Township (Atco, N.J.) in a five-inning game. Winslow, which scored five runs in the first inning, outhit West 14-7. Each team made three errors.
