Lady Trojans defeat North

Two days after beating South Brunswick for a share of first in the Waccamaw Conference, the West Brunswick volleyball beat North Brunswick 25-13, 25-5, 25-11.


Kenzie McDuffie served West (7-1, 15-1 overall) to a 6-0 lead in the first game. North, with seven players on the roster, rallied to cut the lead to 14-8. Allison Burton hit a winner and an ace in a 3-0 run that cut the lead to 14-11. West got a sideout when McDuffie set Keri Nolan for a hit. Two winners by Nolan put West ahead 17-11.

With the lead 22-13, McDuffie set Sheena Suttlemyre for a kill. After an errant North hit, McDuffie set Carly White for a hit in the next-to-last point of the game.

White’s serving was the key to West’s victory in the next game. She hit seven winners in a 10-0 run that put the Lady Trojans ahead 19-3. Katie King hit two winners in a 4-0 run for a 24-4 lead in the victory.

White held serve for four points as West took a 7-2 lead in the third game. With the lead 15-8, McDuffie hit three straight winners in a 7-0 run that put the Lady Trojans ahead 22-8. White, who finished with 17 points and 10 aces, served the final point of the match.

McDuffie finished with 24 assists, 19 points and six aces. King had the third-most points, five. Nolan had 10 kills. White had seven kills.



West beat North 25-22, 25-6 in the junior varsity match Oct. 1. For West, Alyssa Chappell had five kills. Jasmine Jackson had 16 service points and six aces. Rebecca Howington had seven service points and five aces.
