Laney overcame a slow start and defeated West Brunswick 73-60 in a high school boys’ basketball game last Tuesday in Shallotte.
The Buccaneers trailed 21-13 after the first quarter but outscored West Brunswick 60-39 in the final three periods.
Jermaine Emmanuel scored 20 points, C.J. Donnell added 17 and Antwan Bosier had 15 for the Bucs. Laney improved to 2-1 in the Mideastern 3A/4A Conference and 9-5 overall.
West Brunswick sophomore center Alfy Hill had a big game with 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
