Golf larceny suspect Charles Howard Peele has been located in Little River, S.C., the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday afternoon.

Peele was booked into the Horry County, S.C., Detention Center at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday and is facing charges in that jurisdiction. He will eventually be transported to Brunswick County where he will face additional charges.

The BCSO, along with the Sunset Beach Police Department, sought Peele, who is believed to be responsible for the theft of nearly $20,000 worth of golf equipment.

Peele, 38, of Pelican Roost Dr. SW, Supply, had outstanding warrants for eight counts of felony larceny, which includes nearly $20,000 in personal property, mainly golf bags and clubs. The larcenies occurred between June 7 and June 17 in the south end of Brunswick County.

Sunset Beach Police Detective Joe Smith said Tuesday he had recovered all but one of the stolen golf bags. Smith recovered the bags from pawnshops in Monroe and Wilmington as well as in Murrells Inlet, North Myrtle Beach and Little River in South Carolina.

Smith said two bags of golf clubs were stolen from Sea Trail on June 7, “the first day we knew [the suspect] was in action.”

The thief struck again on June 17 when four sets of golf clubs were stolen from Sandpiper Bay Golf Club. On Friday, two more sets were stolen from Oyster Bay.

Smith said the suspect hangs out at clubhouses.

“He waits for people to go in and eat after the first nine or when they finish playing,” Smith said.

Clubs were taken from cars, trucks or straight off the backs of golf carts, Smith said.
