On the 15th of August in the auditorium of Odell,

A crowd gathered ’round under quite a spell;

Brunswick Little Theatre was getting amuse-ical,

As the cast cast its magic in “Seussical: The Musical!”

Theatergoers who missed opening weekend of Brunswick Little Theatre’s latest production celebrating Dr. Seuss have three more chances this weekend.

“Seussical: The Musical,” showcasing a cast of 53 men, women and children of Whoville, will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 16, and in a final matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17.

BLT’s summer 2008 production is described as a colorful musical extravaganza for all ages, from the littlest Who to the grinchiest Grinch.

Based on the beloved works of Dr. Seuss, “Seussical” weaves together some of his most famous characters, including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant (of “Horton Hears A Who!” fame) and young JoJo Who in a heart-warming story about using your imagination and finding your way home.

“Seussical” includes many of BLT’s favorite performers, including Eleanor Erickson as the mischievous Cat and Jen Hancock as Gertrude McFuzz, a bird with a one-feathered tail and a soft spot in her heart for Horton, the elephant who believes that “a person’s a person, no matter how small.”

Filling Horton’s big, sometimes-clumsy-but-always-caring shoes is newcomer Daniel Check. Playing JoJo, the young Who who captures Horton’s imagination, is 10-year-old Kelly Hollar, whose earnestness and wide-eyed innocence will surely cast a spell over the audience, too.

Rounding out the cast are performers of all shapes and sizes, ranging in age from 1-year-old Rebecca Deese to her grandfather, Jon Richmond.

“Seussical” plays at Odell Williamson Auditorium on the main campus of Brunswick Community College. Tickets are $15 for adults; $6 for students. Groups of 10 or more qualify for a $2 discount off each ticket.

A portion of proceeds will go to the Brunswick County Literacy Council.

For tickets, call Odell Williamson Auditorium ticket office at (800) 754-1050, ext 416.
