Leadership team project benefits Literacy Council

-A A +A

Brunswick County Literacy Council is the recipient of a team project as part of Leadership Brunswick County, a nine-month program jointly sponsored by the Brunswick Community College, Brunswick County, North Brunswick and the Southport-Oak Island Area chambers of commerce.

Graduation ceremonies took place at the Odell Williamson Auditorium Events Center on May 19.

Brunswick County Literacy Council board president Mari-Lou Wong-Chong and vice president Gene Vasile were on hand to cheer the graduates and especially the BCLC team.

Team members David Adams, Terry Grillo, Diane Mesaris, Doug Mieden, Mary Pritchard and Tammy Triplett-Kesky are Brunswick County residents with diverse backgrounds and leadership skills.

The team’s objective was to aid BCLC in a turnkey marketing campaign to create awareness of the council and to improve the capacity of BCLC to deliver adult literacy services through development of brochures, audio and/or power point aids. An innovative logo was developed to augment the current logo: “Growing our future one page at a time.”

BCLC officials say they are grateful to the sponsors of the Leadership Brunswick County program and to the BCLC team for the project, effort, care and gift of leadership.

The Brunswick County Literacy Council is a nonprofit organization committed and dedicated to elevate the level of literacy in Brunswick County.

The next BCLC event is the 20th annual golf tournament on Saturday, June 5, Carolina National Golf Club in Winding River.

BCLC is seeking the community’s support by being a sponsor, a contributor, a golfer or a volunteer. BCLC is at 282 Ocean Highway (U.S. 17) in Supply.
