League raises money for food bank

-A A +A

The six-team Baptist Basketball League began its season the first week in February, with games being played at Cedar Grove Middle School. Coaches agreed there would be no trophies awarded but they did give a sportsmanship award to Gordon Nash. The trophy money was to be given to a charity by the tournament championship team. A charity game, Hoops for Jesus, raised money and canned-food items for the SBIC Food Bank in Shallotte.

The regular-season winner was Gospel Center/Dixon Chapel. Tournament champion Southport Baptist Church donated its trophy check to the SBIC Food Bank in Shallotte.

Southport Baptist Church had the honor of having the first woman player in the league, Brooke Eatmon. Other teams in the league: Shallotte First Baptist, Sharon UMC, Jennies Branch Baptist Church and Mount Olive.
