Leland homicide victim died from gunshot wound; sheriff's office still seeking information

Mark Deegan Johnson, 54, died from a single gunshot wound to the upper abdomen, Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram said Friday.

Chief deputy Charlie Miller said Johnson's body was found at his home on Red Fox Street around 1 p.m. Monday. Ingram said investigators believe Johnson was killed sometime between Saturday and Sunday. Johnson was last seen Saturday morning at his home, Ingram said.

Johnson was not married and lived alone at the home at 9826 Red Fox St., where his body was found. A neighbor reported finding Johnson's body.

Ingram said the investigation is on-going. Sheriff's detectives are still asking for the community's help in their investigation.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction. Any person with information is asked to contact Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at (800) 672-6379 or 253-2777.
