Leland officials plan to put a cap on town costs for streetlights.
Town council and planning board members met Feb. 7 with representatives from Duke Power and Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation to discuss pulling back the costs to the town when they takeover streetlights.
Leland Public Works Director Steven Spruill explained that developers usually add streetlights along the roads they include in commercial or residential properties.
Typically, when a development is annexed into the town limits, the town will take over maintenance of roads and lights.
