Leland Police Chief Mike James fired one of the department’s sergeants for improperly logging training hours.
James said after receiving reports of a possible violation, he had a lieutenant perform an internal investigation.
Officers in the Leland department have to go through radar school to use the police cruiser radar system. They take a course and then must continue training for an additional 16 hours in their police car with a certified operator to become radar certified.
