Leland Rotary gives awards

The Leland Area Rotary Club announced the recipients of its Rotarian of the Year and Service Above Self (Volunteer of the Year) awards at its annual officer installation banquet on June 30 at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland.

Charter president George Murray was named Rotarian of the Year and outgoing board member Pat Batleman received the Service Above Self award. Batleman served as the club’s service projects chair for 2010-11. Both awards were selected by a secret ballot of Leland Area Rotary Club members.

The Leland Area Rotary Club was chartered in early 2010 and serves northern Brunswick County. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. 

Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community’s business and professional men and women. The world’s Rotary clubs meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious and open to all cultures, races and creeds.
