Gifts will be the overt expression of love. And, there is truth in it all...but not complete truth, not the fullness of reality. 

Yes, giving is good for the giver and the receiver. The question is what do we wish to give, to leave, to offer as a lasting memory of our connectedness to each other, our love for each other?
