Lightning from a thunderstorm knocked out power Thursday night in portions of Brunswick County.

The outage affected about 15,000 customers in the Holden Beach and Supply areas, said Judy Gore, spokeswoman for Brunswick Electric Membershop Corp.

Five substations were out as a result of lightning strikes at the Prospect transmission station, Gore said.

The outage occurred between 9-10 p.m. and lasted for a little over an hour before power was restored, Gore said.

“We just hope and pray we don’t have any more [outages],” Gore said Friday, though more rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the region.
