Local seniors, BSRI need your help

-A A +A

To the editor:
Brunswick Senior Resources Inc. would like to request help for our senior community. There are many ways to help us.
While receiving monetary contributions is always appreciated, you can help by referring a family member or friend to lease space at our Southport Senior Center or Shallotte Senior Center for an event or gathering.
Talking to an acquaintance about advertising in our BSRI newsletter or donating materials for our Ramps and Rails program also provides needed support.
Consider teaching a class based on a talent you may have, or offer a work-related skill, which can help offset costs. You can also approach area clubs and auxiliaries to ask for help for BSRI.
While BSRI is the recipient of many blessings, it also faces many challenges. The summer months create a particular obstacle regarding adequate volunteer staffing for medical transportation and home-delivered meals.
BSRI has a rich heritage of using volunteers to help fill gaps in services that are not provided by public transportation. Helping our neighbors receive their meals and getting them to doctors appointments is a critical component to maintaining longevity and staying in the home as long as possible.
Our plea is if you have time in your schedule to assist a senior with a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or delivering a meal to a senior who is homebound, please call Derissa Gore at 253-2103.
BSRI offers a mileage stipend to assist with the cost of fuel.
Please call and let us know how you can volunteer to help assist seniors in Brunswick County.
