Lockwood Folly raises $18,000 for cancer institute

-A A +A

Lockwood Folly Ladies Golf Association played its annual cancer benefit tournament on Oct. 25, with the proceeds going to the Duke Cancer Institute for ovarian and other gynecological cancer research.
Sixty-eight golfers participated in the play-your-own-game (two nets and two gross scores per four-person team).
First in gross was the team of Diane Sandoval, Cheryl Washburn, Sue Dillman, and Debi Worley. First in net was the team of Susann Thompson, Martha Webster, Rita Karr and Laura Botto.
A luncheon followed the golf tournament. Participants could purchase prizes worth more than $25 each from a pick-a-prize board of aqua polka dots. Participants did not know what the prize was under the dot when they placed their names on the dots and the winners were revealed later in the day.
Mary Knopfle, an ovarian cancer survivor and DCI patient, and Cheryl Washburn were hosts of this event. The total collected from all events of the day netted $18,000 for the Duke Cancer Institute.
