‘Stand Up For Charity’ fundraiser set for Jan. 3 at BCC

Comedian Jon Reep will be the featured headliner in the first “Stand Up For Charity,” a fundraiser sponsored by the Shallotte Junior Women’s Club set for Saturday, Jan. 3, at Odell Williamson Auditorium at Brunswick Community College.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Reep, originally from Hickory, is the 2007 winner of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and also known as “the Hemi guy” in the Dodge commercials.

The show also will feature two opening acts—Brad Reeder and Brooklin Green.

Reeder has been a professional comedian for more than 20 years. His appearances include: opening act for Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, Dennis Miller and Wynonna Judd.

Green is an instructor at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington where she teaches comedy improvisation and stand-up comedy.

She has bachelor of arts degree in theater and is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory in Chicago—touted as the leading improv training center in the world with such famous alumni as Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Michael Myers and Chris Farley.

Green was also a finalist in Nickelodeon’s “Funniest Moms Contest.” She performs stand-up in Wilmington and throughout North Carolina.

The Shallotte Junior Woman’s Club was started in 1973 by a group of women dedicated to improving the community through volunteerism. It is 40 members strong and members work diligently to provide volunteer and financial assistance to local schools as well as numerous service and nonprofit agencies.

Several of these include Brunswick Family Assistance, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, Relay for Life, Hope Harbor Home, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and many others.
