Lunch buddy is also a math tutor

At Leland Middle School, Dan Levine is a lunch buddy (mentor) to two students and is also a math tutor in the Action for Success Program. He isn’t just a volunteer…his energy and ideas go above and beyond.
“Dan is very dependable and on track with what the students’ needs are. They enjoy spending time with him,” Ruth Thompson, success coach, said. “Dan started working last year as a lunch buddy and this year came to me and said that he wanted to do more. We added another lunch buddy and math tutoring. He really enjoys helping students learn and grow.”
In addition to being a mentor and tutor, Levine stretched his volunteer time at LMS to include mentoring for the Peer Court program at the beginning of the school year.
“Dan has been amazing,” Susan Lamm, Peer Court coordinator, said. “He has brought several new ideas to the program that are working out great for not only me, but for his fellow mentors and the student volunteers, as well.”
Levine takes it all in stride.
“It’s so nice that LMS has such a wide range of volunteer opportunities available and they’re flexible enough to allow me to contribute in a variety of ways,” he said.
