On June 6, U.S. Air Force Capt. David Lynes, son of Dan and Linda Lynes of River’s Edge in Shallotte, entered the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio, for two years of graduate school in nuclear engineering. He was promoted to captain in a ceremony on June 13 attended by his mom and his friend Renee Carson of Portland, Ore. From July 2007 until his graduate school entry, Lynes was a flight test engineer in the 422nd Fighter Squadron at Nellis AFB, Nev., just north of Las Vegas.
