Are you ready for some Putt-Putt?

Now is the time of year to rent some colorful clubs and balls and get out and explore the intricate, winding novelty delights of area miniature golf courses with your family.

From Calabash to the south to Holden Beach on the north end of the Brunswick Isles, there are several courses from which to choose.

Among the offerings:

•Tropical Adventure Mini Golf, 10124 Beach Drive, Calabash—Easily recognized by its jumbo pink flamingo, sea captain and other colorful critters decorating its pathways, this longtime mini-course is a favorite before- or after-dinner stop in the Seafood Capital.

“In the world of mini golf, this is my Bethlehem,” writes one online reviewer from Hawaii about the course. “I first played this course in 1981 and it’s still going strong. It’s got everything you need from a giant hill to a hole [where] you have to jump a creek. It’s perfect for anyone over 7 years old. This is a special course in a special town, so enjoy!”

It’s open daily from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. A daily special is $8 each for unlimited play from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

•Bridges Grill Pizza and Golf, 305 Sunset Blvd. N., Sunset Beach—Check out the novelty obstacles at this longtime funtime golf course, Par Harbour Mini Golf, which is open for the season daily from 10 a.m. until. When you get hungry, grab a bite to eat at the adjacent grill.

•Ocean Isle Mini Golf, 6391 Beach Drive at Hickory Avenue, Ocean Isle Beach—Slightly obscured by all the trees, this 18-hole course is renowned for its shade and “good, big bathrooms.”

Its mini course is highlighted with a fish pond containing koi and goldfish, restful gazebo, bridges and varying obstacles to keep games interesting. There’s also homemade soft-serve ice cream, soda and floats. It’s open daily from 10 a.m.-11 a.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day.

•River Country Mini Golf, 1 Causeway Drive, Ocean Isle Beach—Open daily 10 a.m.-10 p.m. or 11 p.m. (depending on traffic). Single game is $5, daytime special from 10 -5 is $9.
