McIntyre gives local update

-A A +A
By Staff Brunswick Beacon

To the editor: As Brunswick County’s representative in the U.S. Congress, I am constantly striving to meet the many challenges this wonderful county faces.

From beach renourishment to economic development, from agriculture to education and veterans’ healthcare, I appreciate the partnership we have formed and the results we have achieved in moving Brunswick County forward.

In that same spirit, federal funds were successfully obtained to offset the costs of a new senior citizens center to help meet the needs of Brunswick County’s increasing senior citizens population.

The choice of where to build the center was not— and is not—one made at the federal level; that decision is entirely a local one.

While honoring the commitment we all share for our senior citizens, we also know the numerous benefits reaped by our youth’s involvement in sports.

In fact, four years ago I formed the Congressional Caucus on Youth Sports to promote the values of character development, safety, fun, health and fitness. Having coached and played youth sports, I know the positive impact youth sports programs can have.

With parks and recreation facilities being critical to the success of youth sports in particular and healthy communities in general,

I have urged the county commissioners to find a solution that meets the needs of our young people and families while fully honoring our commitment to our senior citizens.

Thanks to all of those committed to working in this dual goal of helping both our youth and senior citizens.
