Election results show incumbent Rep. Mike McIntyre narrowly beating challenger David Rouzer for the U.S. House of Representatives District 7 seat by 407 votes.

Statewide results show McIntyre, D-Lumberton, with 167,524 votes, or 50.08 percent, to Rouzer’s 167,017 or 49.92 percent of votes in the tight race.

McIntyre has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997 and has served on numerous congressional committees. He stated he sought re-election because “My love of Brunswick County and eastern North Carolina has always fueled my passion for service.”

He cited as top three issues creating more North Carolina jobs, controlling government spending and supporting veterans.

Rouzer is a Raleigh-based business consultant who has served two terms in the North Carolina Senate.
