Memorial erected to honor Ocean Isle Beach fire victims

OCEAN ISLE BEACH—What began as a fun weekend getaway for a group of young college friends turned into a tragic weekend that changed their lives and affected an entire community.

At about 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, a fire broke out at 1 Scotland St. and claimed the lives of seven of the 13 students who were staying at the beach house.

Friday, the survivors of the fire, family members and friends gathered in Ocean Isle Beach for the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to the remembrance of those who lost their lives nearly seven months ago.
