More euthanasia changes needed

-A A +A
By Staff Brunswick Beacon

To the editor: Thank you, Laura Lewis, for the Feb. 21 article on the proposed euthanasia rules for N.C. animal shelters.

However, I strongly believe further changes/revisions are necessary for the humane treatment of animals.

The only method N.C. facilities should be allowed to “put down” any animal is by lethal injection (EBI). Vets only use EBI; they do not use gas chambers for many reasons. Not only is carbon monoxide a horrendous death for the animals (struggling for air in the dark box), but also it is very dangerous for facility employees.
