The mother of a slain Brunswick County baby has been charged in an armed robbery and assault in Burgaw.

Brandy Nicole Elkins, 19, of Burgaw, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 8, according to reports from the Pender County Sheriff’s Office.

Elkins is the mother of Colton Richardson, a 4-month-old boy who died May 28. His father, 19-year-old Randy Lee Richardson of Shallotte, was indicted July 1 on a first-degree murder charge in the baby’s death, according to Brunswick County court records.

Elkins is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, conspiring to commit a robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun and assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim said four people lured him to their residence Monday, Oct. 7, before assaulting him and stealing his money. They also forced him to have crack cocaine delivered to the residence, reports show.

Elkins; her boyfriend, Brandon Scott Drinkwater, 23, of Burgaw; Jacob Leamon Rivenbark, 21, of Wallace, and Brandon Trevor Simpson, 28, of Burgaw, are incarcerated at the Pender County Jail. Drinkwater, Rivenbark, and Simpson face the same charges as Elkins.
