Mount Calvary, Pleasant View stay unbeaten in church league

Brunswick County Men’s Church Basketball League leaders Mount Calvary and Pleasant View kept their undefeated records in tact last week.

Mount Calvary defeated Dixon Chapel 72-32 on Friday to improve its record to 7-0. Pleasant View was an 84-51 winner over Jennies Branch last Thursday to move to 6-0.

Feb. 12 scores

*New Beginnings 72, Shallotte First Baptist 29. Tim Mokma scored 19 points and James Ward added 14 for New Beginnings. David Batten led First Baptist with 10 points.

*Jennies Branch 72, Mount Olive 49. Andrew Stephens scored a game-high 24 points and Joe Faircloth finished with 23 for Jennies Branch. High scorers for Mount Olive were Norman Ingram with 19 and Chad Dillahay with 14.

*Sharon Methodist 41, Beach Assembly 35. Chris Strahley scored 16 points and Nick Benoy chipped in 14 for Sharon Methodist. Leading scorers for Beach Assembly were Travis Thompson with 10 points and Todd Summerlin with eight.

*Pleasant Grove 53, Sharon Methodist 28. Dexter Galloway scored 14 points and Timmy Daniels had 11 to lead Pleasant Grove. Chris Strahley paced Sharon Methodist with 11 points.

*New Beginnings 54, Shallotte Presbyterian 45. John Surgiao had 16 points and Tim Mokma 15 for New Beginnings. Leaders for Shallotte Presbyterian were Ryan Smithwick with 21 points and Scott Cannon with nine.

*Pleasant View 84, Jennies Branch 51. Josh Brown tossed in 18 points and Jason Thompson added 13 to lead Pleasant View. High scorers for Jennies Branch included Brandon Stephens with 17 points and Joe Faircloth with 15.

*New Beginnings 63, Mount Olive 41. Will Hickman scored 19 points and Sam Hickman had 11 to lead New Beginnings. Top scorers for Mount Olive were Norman Ingram with 14 points and Bradley Ricker with 11.

*Mount Calvary 72, Dixon Chapel 32. McReese Vereen scored 14 points and Maurice Finch had 11 to lead Mount Calvary. Leaders for Dixon Chapel were Nathan Swain with nine points and Jason Marshburn with eight.

*Liberty Tabernacle 65, Beach Assembly 32. Kendrick Frink scored 18 points and Willis Stevenson had 12 for Liberty Tabernacle. Top scorers for Beach Assembly were Travis Thompson with nine points and Jay Lach with eight.
