Museum plans field trip

The Museum of Coastal Carolina will collaborate with Brunswick County tourism partners, Brunswick Town and Orton Plantation Gardens, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, as part of the museum’s lecture series and field trip.
Brunswick Town docent Jim McKee will talk about the role that Brunswick Town played during colonial times. The museum at Brunswick Town has a large collection of artifacts that represent the lifestyle of its inhabitants.
Orton Plantation Owner/Manager David Sprunt will talk about the history of the home, its owners and families, and the plantation’s use as a leading rice plantation, Civil War hospital, and its gardens.
The field trip from the Museum of Coastal Carolina to Brunswick Town and Orton Plantation Gardens will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, May 13. Registration and payment is required by May 6. The field trip fee is $30 for museum and planetarium volunteers and members. Non-member fee is $35.
Field trip fee includes: carpool, donation to Brunswick Town, admission to Orton Plantation Gardens and lunch. The fee is non-refundable but may be applied to museum or planetarium membership. Checks should be made payable to Museum of Coastal Carolina and mailed to the museum at 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469. For more information, call the museum at 579-1016.
The Museum of Coastal Carolina is on Ocean Isle Beach beside the playground and a block from the beach and pier.
Spring hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior adults 60 and older, $6 students K-12 and college ID, and $4 preschool ages 3-5.
