N.C. Oyster Festival races

  Tom Clifford and Heather Magill won the N.C. Oyster Festival 10K races Sunday morning at Ocean Isle Beach.

Clifford, 29, of Wilmington, ran the 6.2-mile course in 32 minutes, 7 seconds.

Magill, 31, of Wilmington, finished fourth overall out of 96 runners in 36:09.

Finishing second in the men’s race was Eric Toffey, 30, of Herndon, Va. (34:27). Adam Cornelius, 29, of Rockwell, was third in 35:59.

Among the women, Kaley Welsh, 18, of Wilmington, was second and ninth overall in 41:22 and Carolyn Nicholson, 48, of Whispering Pines, was third and 17th overall in 45:50.

In the 5K race, Aaron Kolk, 25, of Wilmington, was first in 16:32. Mark Kauffman, 22, of Wilmington, was second in 16:38. South Brunswick ’s Grant Hufham was third in 16:39. Last week, Hufham won the Waccamaw Conference cross-country championship.

Among the women, Marisa Ryan, 27, of Durham, was first and fifth overall in 16:57. Lindsay Ester, 22, of Wilmington, was second and eighth overall in 18:44. Oak Island’s Suzanne Tulsey, 38, was third and ninth overall in 19:08.

Bailey Lawson, 10, of Ash, was the fifth fastest woman runner, finishing 30th overall out of 275 runners in 22:27. Lawson won the women’s division and finished sixth overall Oct. 13 in the Mary Lu Blasdell Memorial Race. She ran the 5K race in 21:11, a time 3 minutes quicker than her winning time in the Sunset to Sunset 5K race the previous weekend.

Samantha Smith, 10, of Leland was the sixth fastest woman runner, finishing 36th in 23:25.

The races Sunday, which had cash prizes for the top runners, attracted 371 runners and dozens more non-competitors. A 1-mile run preceded the 5K and 10K races.  Results are at gotime!com (fun run results were not posted).
