New Hanover sweeps West

New Hanover’s girls and boys swept West Brunswick in high school basketball action last Tuesday in Shallotte.

The West Brunswick girls had a 38-36 lead through three quarters of their game, but the Lady Wildcats rallied for a 55-50 win.

Tysheia Robinson and Morgan King scored 12 points each as New Hanover improved to 7-4 in the Mideastern 3A/4A Conference and 13-9 overall.

Miranda Jenrette scored a game-high 14 points for West Brunswick (4-8 conference, 12-11 overall). Bre Gause added nine points and Sheena Suttlemyre had eight for the Lady Trojans.

In the boys’ game, New Hanover rolled to an 85-34 victory. The defending state 4A champion and top-ranked 4A team in the state led 53-8 at halftime.

Leading scorers for the Wildcats (11-0 conference, 21-2 overall) included Rakeem Wilson with 16 points, Ty Walker with 12, Jakeil Moore with 11 and David Pellom with 10.

Wally Kamfolt scored 12 points and Jim Stewart had eight for the Trojans (0-12 conference, 5-18 overall).
