Dr. William Christopher Rynn was named Exceptional Children Program Director at the regular meeting of the Brunswick County Board of Education on March 1. He will begin work in Brunswick County on April 1.

Rynn is an accomplished exceptional children’s teacher, school psychologist, principal and program director, having served in both Wilkes and Watauga counties. He comes to Brunswick County from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, where he currently serves as regional coordinator for the Exceptional Children Division.

When asked about his assignment in Brunswick County, he replied, “I like to tell people that I work for children with ‘abilities.’ No individual or group should ever be defined by what they cannot do. We may never perfect education for all children, but as Vince Lombardi once said, ‘...if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.’”

“I have had the distinct privilege of working with Dr. Rynn at the Department of Public Instruction,” said Jessica Swencki, former Exceptional Children Program Director for Brunswick County.

“He is a true student advocate, extremely creative and has a clear understanding and respect for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Brunswick County is extremely fortunate to have Dr. Rynn join our team.”
