New school board chair thanks Babson for enduring service

The Brunswick County Board of Education didn’t have any turnover following the 2012 elections, but there was one change.

Charlie Miller was voted new board of education chairman at the Dec. 4, 2012, meeting, replacing Shirley Babson.

On Jan. 8, Miller took time at the start of the first school board meeting of the new year to thank Babson for her years of service.

“I wanted to salute Mrs. Babson,” he said. “The board was definitely behind (the sentiment.). She’s a very hard worker. She nominated me for chairman.”
