-A A +A

The Southwest Brunswick Newcomers Club will celebrate its fifth year as an organization at its first meeting of the club year at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Shallotte Presbyterian Church in Shallotte.

Featured guest speaker will be Robb Ellis, meteorologist for WECT-TV6 in Wilmington.

SWBNC meets the second Thursday of each month with the doors opening at 9:30 a.m. to welcome prospective new members and returning members and to allow time for members to sign up for the various activities that will be scheduled throughout the club year from September through June.

Some of the activities are: casual bowling, casual golf, book club, bridge club, out-to-lunch at local restaurants and kayaking. Special events such as dinner/dances and theater performances are also scheduled during the year. The general meeting starts promptly at 10 a.m.

Singles and couples are all welcome. If you have recently moved to southwest Brunswick County or have lived here for a number of years and are looking to attend meetings with monthly guest speakers, as well as meet people who have fun doing things together, then plan to attend one of the meetings. Membership in the SWBNC is $10 per person for the year, September through August.
