North Brunswick beats West in girls basketball

 North Brunswick beat West Brunswick 48-38 in a conference girls’ basketball game Dec. 2 at West.


For North, sophomore Nikayla Ramsey scored nine points and these players scored eight points each: junior Annabel Hsia, sophomore Tiffany Keaton and senior Katrina Brown.

For West (0-2, 2-8), sophomore Yana Bland scored nine points, junior Dazia Gause eight and senior Brie Hill six off two 3-pointers.

Back-to-back baskets by Ramsey gave the Scorpions a 38-29 lead, but Hill hit her second 3-pointer to cut the lead to 38-32.

Another basket by Ramsey was followed by a score West senior Allison Brown off a pass from sophomore Leilani Emile with about 3 minutes, 30 seconds left, cutting the lead to 40-34. West never scored again, making three turnovers and missing three field-goal attempts the rest of the game. In North’s 8-0 game-ending run, Hsia scored twice.

In the first quarter, Keaton had three offensive rebounds in helping the Scorpions take a 14-7 lead.

In the second quarter, West outscored North 10-4 in cutting the lead to 18-17 at halftime. In the half, North missed 11 of 19 free throws; West missed five of eight.
