Scorpions win first track meet
Shawn Sanders and Corey Hammonds led the North Brunswick High School boys’ track team to victory in a tri-meet last Thursday at Pender.
The Scorpions had 97 points to 31 for Trask and 30 for Pender.
Sanders won the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles as well as the triple jump. Hammonds captured the 400-meter run, shot put and discus.
A double winner for the Scorpions was Tony Wright in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races.
The Scorpions also won three of the four relay races.
North Brunswick was on the road Tuesday at Topsail for a meet with Topsail, Dixon and White Oak.

Randall Rabon hit a three-run home run and a double and Dakota Irwin went 3-for-4 with five RBIs as the Scorpions whipped Wilmington Christian Academy 16-0 Monday in Wilmington. The game was called after four innings because of the 10-run rule.
Tyler Smith allowed four hits in gaining the victory, which improved the Scorpions’ record to 1-1.
North Brunswick will open Waccamaw 1A/2A Conference play Thursday at home against South Columbus and face county rival West Brunswick Friday in Leland before traveling to East Columbus on March 12.

The Lady Scorpions ran their record to 2-0 on Monday, beating Ashley 6-5 at Wilmington. North Brunswick rallied for two runs in the fifth inning to secure the win.
Carrie Evenson was the winning pitcher, striking out three in four innings. Sheniqua Harrison got the save and struck out four.
Valerie Jones went 2-for-4 with a triple; Brittini Bell was 2-for-3 with a double; and Marissa Dunsmore had a double for the Lady Scorpions.
North Brunswick will host South Columbus Thursday in its Waccamaw 1A/2A Conference opener and West Brunswick on Friday before traveling to East Columbus on March 12.
