North splits with Whiteville

The North Brunswick High School girls’ basketball team recorded its fourth consecutive win while the boys’ squad suffered its fifth straight loss last Tuesday at Whiteville.

Freshman guard Tyera Fisher scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Scorpions to a 64-53 victory.

Latesha Harrison added 11 points and Asheley Robbins had 10 as North Brunswick improved to 6-2 in the Waccamaw 1A/2A Conference and 13-4 overall.

The Lady Scorpions trailed 27-26 at halftime and erupted for 38 points in the second half.

High scorers for Whiteville (1-7 conference, 2-15 overall) included Anastasia Wilson with 14 points and Aubrey Evans with 10.

In the boys’ game, Whiteville ended a five-game losing streak with a 72-49 victory.

Dexter Phillips scored 16 points and Ramel Godfrey and Nur Abdullah had 11 apiece to lead Whiteville (3-5 conference, 8-10 overall).

Shawn Sanders scored a game-high 17 points and Reggie Cobia chipped in 13 for the Scorpions (2-6 conference, 5-12 overall).
