Since Nov. 1, detectives with the Oak Island Police Department have investigated a string of breaking-and-entering cases. The thieves target TVs and other electronics.
Police from Myrtle Beach, S.C., and up the North Carolina coast all report multiple breaking-and-entering incidents.
Numerous leads are being followed-up on and new leads are reported daily, according to Oak Island police officials.
Since November, Oak Island police say 43 break-ins, mainly to vacant homes, have been reported. From those homes, 48 TVs have been stolen.
The Oak Island Police Department is a member of the Brunswick County South-End Task Force, which includes the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office as well as Shallotte, Holden Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, Southport and Boiling Spring Lakes police departments.
The task force was created in 2008 and also includes North Carolina Probation and Parole, U.S. Coast Guard and N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement.
Authorities continue to ask for citizens’ help and cooperation in investigating the incidents.
