Kip Travis of Oak Island has earned an honorable mention in an international woodworking contest sponsored by Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts, an international magazine that serves the scroll sawing public.
Travis earned recognition for his entry into the general category of its 2009 Best Design Contest. The magazine is currently available on newsstands and features the top 25 designs, including his design.
Travis has also been contacted by the magazine and asked to do a step-by-step article based on his entry. He also received a merit award for his “shy frog” entry in Oak Island Art Guild’s 2009 Arts by the Shore competition.
Travis has been working in wood for more than 25 years. In 1996, he left the corporate world and struck out on his own. Originally from Charlotte, he has worked closely with interior designers whose imaginations would run wild with possibilities that he brought to life for their customers.
In addition, he has worked for more than a decade consulting with furniture import companies and providing design changes to enhance products and their longevity. He also contracted to do repair and refinishing services for them.
Currently living on Oak Island, he custom designs and builds furniture and cabinetry and also enjoys repairing and refinishing furniture, or as he likes to call it—recycling furniture.
Travis can be reached through his website at www.tidewater-creations.com or call 713-8277.
