Mayor Debbie Smith of Ocean Isle Beach recently unveiled a winner sign at “Long Isle” as a winner of the 2012 North Carolina Beach Rental House Design Competition for Interior Design conducted by Vacation House Review.
After enjoying a sunny tour of the oceanfront blue-roofed rental at East 1st 210, the mayor said, “Long Isle is a wonderful beach house on Ocean Isle Beach and the design team has done an amazing job.”
The owners, Joanelle and Michael Long, engaged a design team of local talent who worked together to create a comfortable, rent-ready home to match Ocean Isle Beach’s laid back serene island locale.
“During our first year of ownership, with a few ingenious changes by a very talented design team, our Ocean Isle Beach house became an inviting coastal retreat,” the Longs said. “We wanted to uncover the bounty of seaside beauty. Once we let the ocean in, the house was transformed.”
The design team was comprised of Patty Grenier, award-winning interior designer and manager of Victoria’s Ragpatch in Ocean Isle Beach; Catherine Sludds, a soft furnishing designer who created the bed pillows; Anita Johnson of Goose Art Design, who painted a fish wall mural, sea-themed furniture and signs; Dave Eggers, craftsman and furniture painter; and Suzy King of Calabash Photography, who took the winning competition photographs.
The owner wanted the beach house to showcase seaside colors and images.
“I really wanted to bring the outdoors in,” Joanelle said. “We used blues, periwinkles, sand and seagrass colors. I wanted Long Isle to be natural, islandy, casual and fun so as to honor nature, the OIB lifestyle and its retreat serenity.”
This beach house, awash in coastal atmosphere, is an oceanfront, two-story rental with six bedrooms all ensuite, a ground level party area and large upper deck with a private walkway to the beach.
Lee Foster, founder of Vacation House Review and competition judge, said of this Cooke Rental property: “Long Isle is the quintessential beach house. Joanelle Long and her team have done a fabulous job translating the best of Brunswick County beach experience into a home. It is so lovingly done that you feel like a guest in someone’s home—someone with very good taste.”
