An Ocean Isle Beach woman has been hospitalized and another woman charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an altercation reported late Sunday night.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit charged Elizabeth Michelle Grig, 24, of Erin Place in Ocean Isle Beach early Monday morning with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury as well as kidnapping.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received the call around 11:52 Sunday night.

The victim, Stacey Means, 37, also of Erin Place, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington where she remains. The injury to her throat required surgery, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Emily Flax said.

Investigators determined the incident occurred as the result of an altercation between the two women. After Grig injured the victim with a knife, she then forced her into a space under the home and called 911.

Grig is currently being held in the Brunswick County Detention Facility on $200,000 bail.
