OCEAN ISLE BEACH—The town of Ocean Isle beach learned at its monthly meeting last Tuesday the park planned for construction on Old Georgetown Road is scheduled to be completed by July 2009.
Plans include a 5-acre festival area, intended for hosting the North Carolina Oyster Festival. Other elements include a 300-seat amphitheater, eight tennis courts, two high school and four junior soccer fields, two multi-use baseball fields with concession, restroom area, picnic shelter, playground area, open land for a potential dog park or disc golf course and about 350 parking spaces throughout the grounds.
County commissioner Marty Cooke said parks and recreation hope to award the general contractor bid in January and have the project completed by July. Park plans are available for viewing at Ocean Isle Beach Town Hall.
