The Ocean Ridge Ladies’ Golf Association was host of its annual cancer rally Sept. 10 to benefit the Bolivia office of the North Carolina Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP). A golf tournament and Walkathon comprised the fundraiser. The golf tournament, played on Lion’s Paw Golf Course, was a captain’s choice and was open to men and women.
The first-place team in the golf tournament, with a score of 66, was Howard Johnson, Joe Neal, Lori Bonnington and Suzanne Gallagher. In second, with a score of 67, were John Hill, Tom O’Connell, Donna Ambrose and Marilyn Olio.
More than $7,000 was raised for the cancer control program. BCCCP provides free or low-cost breast and cervical screenings for women who meet all of its eligibility criteria, including household income, insurance status, Medicare and Medicaid status and age requirements. In addition, should results of these screenings indicate additional diagnostic services, they are provided through BCCCP. Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer while enrolled in the program are likely eligible for treatment through Breast and Cervical Cancer Medicaid.
