OIB sand sculpture contest Aug. 30

Beach hands will be getting creative as well as sandy Labor Day weekend when the Ocean Isle Beach family sand sculpture contest gets under way.

The annual competition is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, behind the community center at 44 E. First St. in Ocean Isle Beach.

Rules and applications are available at the Museum of Coastal Carolina at Ocean Isle Beach or by emailing Pam Batchelor at pbatchelor123@gmail.com.

Participants can also register on the beach the day of the contest. 

There is no charge, and prizes will be awarded in both family and children’s divisions.

Everyone is invited to bring shovels and pails and come to the beach. 


Arts and crafts festival at Oak Island


The 25th annual Oak Island Art Guild Arts & Crafts Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Southeast 46th Street and Dolphin Drive, on the soccer field behind Middleton Park and town hall.

The event will feature more than 100 arts and crafts vendors. Festival food vendors will offer hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken on a stick, funnel cake, fried pies, boiled peanuts, candied apples, Italian/Hawaiian ice, slushies, kettle corn and more.

There is plenty of parking and admission is free.
