A 28-year-old Calabash man was found dead just before 10 p.m. May 8—a victim of an apparent drive-by shooting.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene on Pineclair Drive near Calabash, James Allen Murdock, of Acres Lane, was unresponsive in a vehicle.
Murdock was sitting in a vehicle near a residence on Pineclair Drive when a suspect or suspects driving a dark colored SUV shot at him, Lt. Sam Davis said.
Davis declined to say how many shots were fired or where Murdock was shot, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
An autopsy was scheduled for last Friday afternoon at Onslow Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville.
Although investigators believe it was a drive-by shooting, Davis said it was not a random shooting—Murdock was the apparent target.
“We feel like this was directed at him; not a random shooting,” he said.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation, Davis added.
Investigators with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI are offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved with the drive-by shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to call Davis at the sheriff’s office at 253-2777.
