One person fishing in the Jolly Mon fishing tournament has died.
Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard have confirmed two people were recovered from the water Saturday. One person was later pronounced dead. Coast Guard officials would not release the name of the victim or the survivor, saying they had to wait until the next of kin had been notified.
Brant McMullan, organizer of the Jolly Mon Fishing Tournament said this is the first fatality of the Ocean Isle Beach-based tournament since it began in 1992.
