Oyster Festival road race is Saturday

The 30th annual Oyster Festival Road Race is 8 a.m. Oct. 16 at Ocean Isle Beach. Runners may compete in the 1-mile fun run, the 5K or the 10K. Registration closing date is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 14. The fee is $35.

The course is flat asphalt with some areas of hard sand. The start and finish lines are near the community center. All race participants will be able to use their race number for free entry into the N.C. Oyster Festival that day. The first 400 to register will get a free special edition road race T-shirt. Walkers are welcome. Pets and skates are not allowed. 

Awards will be given to top-three finishers (male and female) in each age category for the 5K and 10K, the top-three male and female overall finishers in the 5K and 10K, the top masters (40 and older) male and female overall finishes in the 5K and 10K, and the top male and female finishers in the 1-mile fun run. 

Late registration will be from noon-6 p.m. Friday at the OIB Community Center or at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Runners may also register online at www.active.com/event_detail.cfm.
