The N.C. Oyster Festival Road Race is Sunday on the island at Ocean Isle Beach. The event on flat asphalt consists of 5K and 10K runs and a 1-mile fun run. The 1-mile run begins at 8 a.m. The 5K and 10K runs begin at 8:30 a.m. Pets and inline skaters are not allowed.
The fee is $35. Late registration fee is $40 Oct. 12-16. Register online at www.active.com. Search: 2012 NC Oyster Festival Road Race.
Pick up packets 4-8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the OIB Community Center or 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 20 at the N.C. Oyster Festival on Third Avenue in Ocean Isle Beach. On race day, pick up packets 6-7:15 a.m. at the community center (the start-finish line) at 44 E. First St.
Last year, Shawn McKee won the 5K race, finishing in 17 minutes, 40 seconds. Heather Magill was second overall in the 5K race, finishing in 18:43. Tom Clifford won the 10K race in 32:39. Christine Iammarino was second overall in the 10K in 36:58.
