Padgett has some top field finishes for ECU

Former West Brunswick field athlete Kayla Padgett is having an impact in her freshman season at East Carolina University.
With the Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 11-14 in New Orleans, Padgett enters as one of the top shot putters, discuss throwers and hammer throwers for ECU.
In the Charlotte Invitational April 20-21, Padgett was second in the shot put (a season-best 13.78 meters) and second in the discus throw (45.5 meters). She was fifth in the hammer throw (45.75 meters) her first season ever in the event.
This season in the discus, Padgett also has a victory (a season-best 45.71 meters March 16-17 at Wake Forest) and a third-place finish (43.98 meters March 31 at the Quad in Wilmington).
In the shot put, Padgett also has a fourth- and a fifth-place finish.
In the hammer, she has a season-best third-place finish of 46.87 meters at the Quad. She has a season-best mark of 48.82 meters in a meet April 6-7 in Gainesville, Fla.—and her 16th-place finish was an indication of the high level of the competition.
Last year, Padgett won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3A state championship in the shot put (with a record mark of 42 feet, 7 inches) and the discus throw.
