Parking changes have made a crowded island potentially dangerous

As much as I would love to be an island homeowner, I have to settle on living in a more affordable inland area and day-tripping to local beaches.

If I could, I’d be more than happy to live in a house where I could step off my deck and dig my toes into the sand. But since I can’t, I have to drive from where I live in Shallotte to take in the waves. That means when I arrive all sun-screened up with a beach bag and lawn chair in tow, I have to park somewhere.
