A 61-year-old Myrtle Beach, S.C., man was killed after he was struck by a tractor-trailer rig as he walked up U.S. 17 near Carolina Shores early Sept. 13.
James Arthur Best Jr. of 1007 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach, died following the 5:30 a.m. incident last Thursday.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Best was walking northbound in the roadway when he was hit by the northbound truck.
Calabash Fire Chief Randy Bork said the incident occurred in the highway between Country Club and Persimmon roads.
Best was reportedly on his way to a court date in Bolivia when he was hit. No charges were filed against the driver.
